Pointing is the term given to the material that sits between the bricks or stone used to build your walls and buildings including chimneys stacks and ridge tiles. Depending on the age of the building, the mortar used to deposit the stone or brick will be made of lime or cement. It must prevent water from penetrating through the joints and also allow the wall to breathe and drain.
As a building ages, it may need some attention. Issues such as crumbling mortar, cracks and the disintegration of the mortar joints. Brickwork or stonework can be pointed in many joint profiles including, flush, cut, tuck, keyed, bucket handle, weather struck and it can also be recessed or raked.

My pointing services are available for a small area to an entire building and I will attend to any brick or stone repairs at the same time. Depending on the age and style of your brickwork I will select the best materials and style for your property and ensure that your building is protected for many years to come.
I can apply lime pointing to all types of masonry, stonework, and brickwork. My lime pointing services range from replacing deteriorated original lime pointing or cement mortar to ensure breathability and permeability to walls and buildings.
Penetrating damp is a serious issue that can lead to structural integrity being lost, the development of black mould and the loss in quality of your walls. Repointing is an important factor in eliminating penetrating damp from your property.
Cement pointing is a technique used to fill and seal the gaps between bricks or stones. The process involves removing old mortar and filling the joints with new cement mortar, which is then smoothed and finished to match the surrounding surface. Cement pointing uses a mortar made of cement, sand, and water. Cement is a man-made material that is known for its strength and durability. Cement mortar is more rigid and less permeable than lime mortar. Cement pointing is seen as more durable, but it is also less flexible and can crack over time. Cement pointing is more suitable for new build properties where durability and strength are more important. Cement pointing may still be used in some instances in new construction or remodelling projects where the aesthetic of the traditional brickwork is desired.
Lime mortar is traditionally associated with heritage buildings. However, it is becoming increasingly popular for many other reasons:
